Maps and Images

Listed below are a series of maps that show the location of certified forestland, land cover, location of LEED certified buildings, and other features for Pennsylvania and the U.S.. Most of the maps are viewable as pdf files, and can be viewed by clicking on the small image to the right. This map shows forested land cover in Pennsylvania by state forest district. Forested land cover is divided into three categories: deciduous, evergreen, and mixed forest.

This map shows all land cover categories for Pennsylvania by state forest district. The map clearly shows the dominant urban land use in the Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia regions, as well as the predominance of forest in the north central region of the state.

This map shows the location of federal and state managed lands in Pennsylvania by county, including Allegheny National Forest, the state forestlands, and the state gamelands. At present, all of the Pennsylvania state forestlands are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

This map shows the location of six FSC-certified sawmills in Pennsylvania relative to the location of FSC-certified state forestlands. Each sawmill location is surrounded by a 50-mile radius to demonstrate that most of the state forestlands are located in relative proximity to FSC-certified processing facilities.

This map shows the amount of FSC-certified, publicly-owned forestland by state as of March 9, 2006. Pennsylvania, Michigan and Minnesota lead the nation in the total acreage of FSC-certified public forestland.

This map shows the location of building projects that are either registered or certified (as of July 2006) with the LEED standard of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
